London Lippies
Tuesday, January 21, 2014Every girl has a guilty pleasure.
From diamonds to high-end leather goods, or even something extreme as hopping on an airplane and flying off to a different continent--we girls all have one. It's that ONE thing where we often feel guilty about indulging in, yet it feels SO good when doing so. Mine? Well, it pertains to a certain bullet of choice (lol at my sad attempt at being witty).
LIPSTICKS.
Recently on my trip to New York City, I managed to spot these treasures. My eyes immediately ogled towards Top Shop the minute I had vision on it. Hearing so many good reviews about this brand all the way from London just ignited a curious passion in me to run into the store and possibly buy out the whole building. Unfortunately, being a poor recent college-graduate with student loans doesn't exactly put me in a situation where I could afford to do such a thing. So, instead, I managed to walk out with a nice top as well as these two beautiful new lipsticks.
The two colors I got were in Macaroon and Saint from their Velvet Lipstick line. These retailed for $16 at Top Shop, the same price as it sells for on Nordstrom. The only nice thing was that I actually received a 10% discount for having my Student ID with me! *high fives self*
The color that surprised me the most was definitely Saint. It is definitely a true nude... In the swatch, it looks as if there's a slight pink hint to it, but that really isn't the case when I blended it with my natural lip color. When I first applied it, I thought I looked like an overly powdered ghost! But after a few minutes of letting the lipstick sink in, I realized that the color either grew on me visually or it magically just altered to become more flattering for my skin tone. Macaroon, on the other hand, looks intensely bright when swatched, but on my lips the color dimmed down to a nice coral pink shade.
Now in terms of the "velvet" touch to these lipsticks, I'd have to say that it is moisturizing and almost comparable to MAC cremesheens' formula (perhaps a little less creamy). Maybe it's just me, but anytime I apply on a nude lipstick, I HAVE to put some sort of lip balm beforehand or else it hugs all the cracks and craters on my lips (haahhh, sexy right?). I grimaced a little at the Saint lipstick because it does hug to the peeling skin on my lips quite visibly... So, yeah, gross. Ew. If you do not use lip balm before applying these lipsticks you will have gritty looking lips.
Here are full-face shots of me with the lip sticks on.

Overall, my guilty pleasure of overstocking on lipsticks has been accomplished (yet again). Sigh. I need to be hospitalized for psychologically being OBSESSED with lippies!
Product Rating: 3.5/5

Cons: Clings to lines on lips
